The month-to-month decrease is the largest since May of 1987 and the overall unemployment rate is now the lowest it’s been since October 2008. Since April 2012 more than 26,000 jobs have been added to South Carolina’s economy.

All 46 counties added jobs in the last month.  Four counties saw their rates drop a full point since March–Marion, Horry, Barnwell and York.

” This drop in unemployment is yet another piece of great news for South Carolina,” said Governor Nikki Haley. “Our outstanding companies, our loyal and dedicated workforce, and our competitive business environment have our economy turning again. There’s no doubt that South Carolina is on the move, and we couldn’t be more excited about the great things in store for our state.”

At today’s S.C. Republican Party State Convention, delegates overwhelmingly re-elected current State Chairman Chad Connelly, giving him almost 75% of the vote. Connelly immediately begins his second term as SCGOP Chairman. He was first elected in 2011 from Newberry County. Delegates gave of votes 15% to Samuel Harms of Greenville County, and 10% of votes to Stephen Brown, also of Greenville County.Chairman Connelly previously defeated Brown in 2011.
After his win, Chairman Connelly issued the following statement: “I am honored and humbled to have the confidence and trust of our state delegates. Over the past two years, I have enjoyed visiting them in every county across our beautiful state. The South Carolina Republican Party’s grassroots are truly stronger than ever, and we will never relent in the fight for conservative solutions to stop Barack Obama, Vince Sheheen, and the South Carolina Democrats’ destructive agenda.”

Election results for county party leadership are as follows: 

Chairman – Mr. Eric Fry, Vice-Chair – Mrs. Karen Christmas, State Executive Committeeman – Mrs. Cindy Floyd-Jones.  The county party will also be sending a full voting delegation to the state GOP convention in Columbia on May 4^th.

The Marion County Republican Party is holding its 2013 County Convention on Tuesday, April 16^th at 7 p.m. at the Beeson Building (206 Airport Court, Mullins).

The convention serves two purposes:  First, the party must select its leadership for the next two years (Chair, Vice-Chair, etc).  Second, and just as important, it is an opportunity to meet and greet other conservatives from the county.

This meeting is free and open to anyone who is interested.

—-  March – Precinct Organization:  We would like to organize as many voting precincts as possible.  A Precinct President is a point of contact for that precinct only.
 
—-  April - County Convention:  The county party must hold a convention to select County Chair, Vice-Chair, Executive Committeeman, and Secretary/Treasurer. 
 
—-  May – SCGOP events:  Silver Elephant Dinner (May 3rd) and State Convention (May 4th).  State Party votes for leadership positions.  Marion County will send voting delegates and alternates to the Convention.  Our delegates will come from our leadership positions, precinct leaders, as well as other active party members.
